About Me

Aminata Traoré is an enthusiastic cultural curator. As an author and social justice journalist her vision is to bring awareness to the cultural richness of communities through highlighting the beauties as well as social justice topics. Traoré engages and empowers communities to embrace the cultures within and worldwide, as we are a melting pot with varying societal ideas. She reminds educators and policymakers of ethnic inclusiveness within their field. With her collegiate education hailing from Lynchburg College (French & Journalism) and Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (Educational Leadership), she prides herself in continuing to learn about cultures and sharing her experiences. As a former library professional, Traoré reconnected with her passion of writing. Filling the call to action for more books with diverse characters; in 2018, she launched a literacy initiative, where she published her first children’s book entitled Xavier the Prince: Step Into Africa. Through her Culturally Curious Literacy Initiative, Traoré promotes the inclusion of cultural diversity in libraries, schools, bookstores, and communities. Traoré is based in Georgia along the Gullah Geechee Corridor with her family.
